Introduced as the successor
to the S Series, a much raced car which debuted in 1927, the Mercedes-Benz
500K Cabriolet C is a highly sophisticated touring car with a supercharged
in-line, eight-cylinder OHV engine and a fully independent suspension
system.
It has an outstanding balance of design and performance. Some 300 of this model
were manufactured between 1934 and 1936. In those days, it was common practice
to have a renowned coachbuilder design the body of a luxury car.
However, in this case, Mercedes-Benz did the coachwork at its Sindelfingen Plant. |

Errett Lobban Cord,
a young entrepreneur, acquired Auburn in 1924 and Duesenberg in
1927. With these resources, the epoch-making front-wheel-drive Cord
L-29 was released in 1929. However, owing to lack of sales, production
was halted and the improved model, the 810, was introduced in 1935.
This was then followed by the improved 812 model. The 812 had retractable
headlights in addition to other advanced equipment, and in the tradition
of the L-29 it employed front-wheel drive and an electrically controlled
vacuum shift gearbox. Cord was committed to the realization of the
dreams of engineers and designers alike. |

The
Delage had the reputation of being the finest of the grand prix
cars. The company that manufactured it entered the 1930s building
a number of high-class touring and luxury saloon cars. Their elegance
was expressed by the famous saying,"One drives an Alfa Romeo, one
is driven in a Rolls, but one gives a Delage to one's mistress."The
D8-120 was the last of the high-performance, large-bodied cars,
and its stylish appearance became the definitive French look. This
beautiful Cabriolet, with coach work by Figoni&Falaschi, was
built after a merger with Delahaye. |
