Occupation Armys Material Wealth Astounds the Japanese
It goes without saying that the massive material resources the Occupation Forces brought into all points of Japan, along with their vehicles, changed Japanese ideas on "things" and "cars" instantly. To many Japanese at the time the Post Exchange of the Occupation Army was the symbol of American material abundance.

Willys Jeep
Willys Jeep These four-wheeled off-road vehicles were brought over en masse by the Allied Occupation forces. They went into production at Ford and Willys just before WWII in 1941 for military reconnaissance and communication purposes. The exhibit shown here was the first to land on the Japanese mainland, and its markings indicate it was used for information gathering and photography purposes.
