Around the time of World War II, import of petroleum into Japan was severely restricted, and many automobiles were converted into alternative energy cars powered by charcoal gas, wood gas, natural gas, etc.
this is a replica of a charcoal-powered car. The car used for this modification is 1937 Buick.
As the output of a charcoal-powered model was only 50 to 60% that of a gasoline-powered vehicle, and charcoal cars ware far more troublesome to maintain, these cars disappeared rapidly after the restriction on importing petroleum had been relaxed in 1950. |
