Relationship between global warming and CO2 (carbon dioxide)
CO2 traps solar heat and proper quantity of CO2 keeps the earth at a comfortable temperature as a greenhouse gas. If too much CO2 is emitted, however, it will cover the earth like a greenhouse and temperature will rise. It is very important to make efforts toward reduction of CO2 to prevent global problems including disasters such as droughts, floods, extinction of plants and animals, or epidemic of diseases.
Passenger cars play an important role in reducing CO2
Under the Kyoto Protocol, Japan committed to reducing CO2 by 6% during the first commitment period from 2008 to 2012 (compared to emissions in 1990). When we organize emission of CO2 in Japan by category, emission in transportation category makes up about 20% and about half of the emission in transportation category is from passenger cars. Accordingly, further reduction in emission of CO2 from passenger cars is significant to achieve the reduction target of 6%. Eco driving is indispensable to achieve the target. Your environment-conscious driving can reduce emission of CO2.
