Large quantities of water are used in cleaning
car bodies and other processes as part of the painting process at production
plants. Toyota is pursuing activities to reduce water usage focusing on the
four plants that conduct vehicle painting, namely Motomachi, Takaoka, Tsutsumi
and Tahara.
In FY2002, a range of meticulous measures were carried out, including increased
reuse of water used for washing vehicles during the painting process, and the
thorough implementation of switching off water valves when not needed as part
of routine management. These measures resulted in just 5.0m3 of water
being used per vehicle, surpassing the goal of 5.3m3. Considering
only the production process, water usage was reduced to 4.4m3 per
vehicle, following the yearly reduction trend as outlined in the graph below. |
