| Toyota Publishes 'Sustainability Report 2006' |
Tokyo — TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) announced today the publication of "Sustainability Report 2006: A New Future for People, Society and the Planet" (Sustainability Report 2006)*1, which summarizes the results of TMC's corporate activities in 2005*2 from environmental, social and economic aspects.
The Sustainability Report 2006—previously known as the "Environmental Report" with information on TMC's environmental initiatives and achievements (1998-2002) and as the "Environmental & Social Report" (2004 and 2005) with the addition of information on TMC social contributions—features for the first time a section on the economic aspects of TMC's corporate activities and reports on TMC's corporate activities aimed at realizing "sustainable development for both society and the planet".
The new section on the economic aspects of TMC's corporate activities includes a summary of the "Toyota Annual Report", which presents financial results and the status of the global development of TMC's business.
The section on environmental aspects—detailed as in the past—covers initiatives in the biotechnology and afforestation businesses and housing business, in addition to initiatives that span the areas from vehicle development and recycling to logistics.
The section on social aspects, with more data provided than before, explains activities undertaken during 2005 in greater detail with respect to each category of stakeholder, such as customers, employees, business partners and shareholders.
TMC has also tried to make the entire report easier to understand by including more examples of initiatives, as well as anecdotal episodes, together with photographs.
National and regional reports are now published by TMC overseas affiliates or related companies in 11 countries and regions outside Japan—one more than a year earlier. Together, these reports are distributed in about 85% of the countries and regions in which Toyota vehicles are sold. TMC intends to further expand global information disclosure through measures that include increasing the number of countries and regions issuing reports in the future.
Please see the attached document for an overview of Sustainability Report 2006.
