Present and future of safety technology development at Toyota

This diagram describes the transitions in Toyota's preventive safety technology over the past decade.
The basic theme of preventive safety is ensuring a high level of vehicle stability. Toyota developed the anti-lock braking system, or ABS, in 1971 and adopted the traction control (TRC) system in 1987. In 1995, Toyota commercialized steering-assisted vehicle stability control (VSC) system.

Moreover, Toyota has been engaged in the development of visibility support technology such as the blind-spot monitor.
