Present and future of safety technology development at Toyota

Next, in considering the future direction that preventive safety should be headed, let us discuss the cause of accidents.

The majority of accidents are caused by recognition failures which account for approximately 60% of rear-end and head-on collisions, as well as approximately 80% of accidents involving intersections, pedestrians and cyclists. Therefore, assisting human recognition is our most important agenda.

On the other hand, handling and judgment errors account for a high percentage of single-car accidents and head-on collisions. Technology to assist automobile handling will also be important to alleviate these issues.
