2009 Season Overview
Toyota began participating in the pinnacle of NASCAR, the Sprint Cup Series, in 2007 with the Toyota Camry. Toyota captured its first victory in the series last year. Toyota produced consistent results this year, with 12 or 13 cars generally advancing through qualifying to the race. Denny Hamlin and Brian Vickers were among the top 12 drivers who battled in the Chase for the Sprint Cup in the last 10 races of the season. Winning four races, including the last race of the year, Hamlin finished 5th―the highest ranking since the Toyota Camry made its debut in NASCAR. The Toyota Camry won a total of 11 races this season, capturing a close 2nd in the manufacturers’ race.
